Progressive metal usually shows up sanded down. We leave the edges on.
Seven-string and five-string, drop tuned. Riffs with some thrash in them, hooks that stick, solos that actually go somewhere. Odd meters because that’s how it comes out, not to prove a point. Some of it’s messy, and that’s why it sounds like us.
What you hear on our records is what we play live, from start to finish. Nobody’s hiding behind a backing track.
Every release we’ve put out, we wrote, recorded and produced ourselves since 2013.
Odd Times is a progressive metal power trio from Montreal, Canada.
Formed in 2013 by three high school friends: Étienne Fournier (guitar, vocals), Maxime Bidégaré (bass) and Vincent Perreault (drums) have been writing and playing together ever since. The band builds its sound on the technical ambition of Dream Theater and Symphony X, the compositional restlessness of Rush, and the edge of Avenged Sevenfold.
Odd Times introduced itself in 2018 with the singles “Drive” and “Mayor of Fear,” followed in 2020 by its first full-length album, A Journey in the Desert, led by “Wandering Again” and “Path to the City.” The trio returned in 2025 with A Tale of Flames, a second full-length album carried by the singles “Dual Flames Paradox” and “Astral Collision.” Every release has been written, recorded and produced by the band itself.
The power trio has built a steady live presence across Montreal and now performs throughout eastern Canada, from Toronto to the Gaspé Peninsula, sharing stages with Stadaconé, Noor and Oktoplut. Festival appearances include En route vers Heavy MTL (2019), the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal (2023) and Wacken Metal Battle Canada (2025), and has been interviewed on air at CIBL 101.5.
Odd Times also works the other side of the curtain. Since late 2025, the band has been staging shows with Longueuil un Pays on Montreal’s South Shore, for established Quebec acts and local artists. It’s experience that serves them on stage as much as behind it.
Odd Times is now expanding beyond Quebec, targeting festival and support slots across Canada, with international dates as the next horizon.
